So what have you learned from your experience over the past academic year?
Perhaps you now know how well the teaching profession can rise to challenges in ways not previously imagined. For example, you have been resilient in dealing with a whole host of challenges (locally, nationally and globally). Furthermore, you have been incredibly adaptable. This might be about modifying the curriculum offer for different groups of pupils and/or using the school buildings in creative ways. I wonder if it is, instead, the combination of resilience and adaptability that is the greatest strength.
Schools are amazing places. They have embraced the challenge and are now considering how they might incorporate their learning into the new normal. Reciprocal learning between home and school has enabled staff and parents to gain an insight into each other’s support for children. As a result, perhaps school provision can be improved, for instance in respect of what pupils are expected to do outside of the school day.Â
How we use technology to enable pupils to acquire and embed knowledge has been fascinating. I have been curious to see how staff and pupils have used live and recorded virtual sessions. Pupils and parents have used the latter to revisit taught concepts, procedures and content. This has led to some schools reflecting on the effectiveness of certain policies, such as homework.
And so here’s to a well-earned summer break. Take advantage of the lack of travel opportunities and enjoy the simple pleasures of good food, drink and most importantly, company.

More About BST…
The BST process provides a school evaluation framework, enabling you as school leaders to articulate your ambition for pupils in your school. As well, you are able to identify clear processes that will bring this from vision to reality. This approach to self-evaluation places ambitions at the centre of your school thinking. Used wisely, it will complement current monitoring and evaluation work.
There are 3 versions available; Primary (including Early Years), Secondary (including Sixth Form) and All Through.
If you are interested or would like to find out more about the BST school evaluation framework, you can find more insight here. Alternatively, you can get in touch and we would be happy to discuss BST with you.
