Reflecting on school improvement work, I wonder if the notion of a rising tide lifts all boats can be used to inform thinking and provision.
This is about …
… the curriculum being appropriately challenging.
If effective, then all pupils can progress well through their studies. Whether it be pupils in the early years or in post-16 provision, whether it be pupils with particular needs or particular abilities.
… having and conveying high expectations about behaviour around the school.
This makes me think about driving on the motorway. When we come across orange cones, we don’t drive over them – despite no signs saying what not to do. This is because we are expected to drive appropriately. Can we take such thinking / such expectations into our school work?
… policy and other document writing.
Does the writing convey to the reader what is expected in respect of the specific aspect of provision?
This is all about making ambition clear in our day to day work.
The current self-evaluation work at Schoolweave encourages leaders to put ambition at the centre of their improvement work. How close are leaders to achieving their ambition? What do they need to do next to get closer? And when and by whom?
