Reflecting on our posts around being courageous as a leader, which links with empowering fellow colleagues, self-evaluation will be a pivotal process in developing such school leadership styles and attributes.

BST is a simple and powerful resource to support school leaders putting ambition front and centre of their school self-evaluation.

BST is structured on 5 principles, being:

  • Ambitious
  • Purposeful
  • Underpinned
  • Empowering
  • Owned

Consider your current school self-evaluation…

Is it clearly ambitious in its aims and priorities? Will you know how well your current provision marries up to the stated ambition?

Is there a real sense of purpose? Have such purposes been clearly defined?

Is it underpinned by recognised current frameworks?

Is it really empowering colleagues in school? Or is school improvement work delegated?

Is it genuinely owned by you and your team? Does your self-evaluation work suit the context of your setting?

In respect of being courageous, how do you define ambition in your setting? How will you know if you are being successful?

Empowerment will link with the leadership structure that exists in your school. BST offers a process through which you can empower colleagues to drive and improve different aspects of school provision.

The team at schoolweave are finalising a major update to the BST process.

Developments include:

  • School leaders being able to engage in an online demo version to see how the process works.
  • The online audit process capturing the intelligence gained from monitoring work.
  • A facility for leaders to make comparisons, including between the effectiveness of different subjects or between different schools.
  • Each user having a log in to a secure area where their reports and presentations will be held.
